An amazing home, quiet and peaceful! Experience the best in Tulum! Adjacent to a courtyard of native vegetation is the terrace of the main unit, complete with a one-of-a-kind pool and a locally made macramé swinging chair under the stairs. The floor-to-ceiling sliding windows seamlessly open to the inside two bedrooms, living room and fully furnished kitchen and laundry. One of the two bathrooms features an outdoor shower with a rainwater shower head. The massive live-edge table in the dining room is a piece of art to be remembered. The two bedrooms on the terrace level feature a king-sized bed and a queen-sized sofa bed. The built-in sofa in the living room could also accommodate two children if desired (head-to-head or toe-to-toe, 11'+ long).
Upstairs is a luxurious rooftop suite. Perfect for two people, it features a king-sized bed, custom-made credenza and TV, a beautiful locally made mirror, full bath and a shower with rainwater shower head. Steps from the front door is a fully furnished outdoor kitchen and dining area, as well as a private soaking pool from which to watch the gorgeous sunsets. It's a short walk to Tulum Centro (downtown), and only a 15-minute bike ride to the beach.
About the area:
Tulum consistently places in the top five beaches on Earth and the town has become globally recognized for its cenotes, Mayan ruins, nightlife, restaurants and bars. There is a lot of investment happening in Tulum with Hilton having just opened the first “big” hotel a couple of months ago.
Mexico is widely considered by many to be a somewhat noisy place in general. In most parts of most cities, you’ll find bread vendors with bicycle bells dinging, service providers with megaphones on their roof - advertising as they drive along, dogs barking, roosters making their signature call and sometimes construction. While it is unlikely you will hear a rooster or dog in our neighborhood, there can be construction work nearby and in other developments.
While you won’t hear the trucks on the main road (Kukulkan) from Casa Carmelita, you can expect a slightly dusty ride to our property. Please use caution and drive safely. While on-site, there are times you may hear some construction outside of our control, like most other cities. Work is not every day. In fact, IF there is noise, it usually doesn’t last long and never begins before 8am.
Most travelers have a mixture of adventurous days and lazy days. During the week, lots of guests are out enjoying all that Tulum has to offer, historical sites, beach hunting, cenote swimming, on a foodie mission, exploring the Sian Ka’an biosphere, taking a day trip to Bacalar - nobody gets bored in Tulum!
During the weekends, outside of tourist centric places, most workers have a half day Saturday and don’t work at all on Sunday (including construction workers!). Please research to make sure this is the right place for your vacation. Tulum is beautiful and unique, we’d love to show you why!

Over the past several decades, our family has taken many trips to Mexico and Latin America. We fell in love with the Mexican lifestyle and looked forward to the day when we could develop an even deeper connection with the culture. As we approached retirement, we discussed options that finally led us to a decision to move, at least part-time, to Mexico.
Because we have always enjoyed staying at B&Bs in the United States, and meeting new people along the way, we decided that we wanted our house in Mexico to double as a vacation rental for others. Our quest for a new home led us to a builder who could customize our home so we could rent part of it and live in the other. And so, Casa Carmelita was built, and named after our Mexican “grand-pup” in Brooklyn.
We chose Tulum because of the incredible weather, the white sand beaches, the gorgeous cenotes, the tropical jungle, and of course, the incredible food. Our goal is to provide our guests with a first-class experience that they will remember forever.
We invite you to see for yourself just what makes Casa Carmelita an oasis.
